This course has been designed for medicine counter staff who are not involved in the assembly of prescribed items but who are required to receive pharmacy supplies and store them safely.

The Medicine Counter Assistant (MCA) Course covers retail skills, the classification of medicines, the use of 2WHAM questions, handling prescriptions, abuse and misuse of medicines, referral to the pharmacist and product knowledge.

This course provides the underpinning knowledge for the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills and may be purchased as part of this delivery programme by other NVQ Centres.

The Dispensing Assistant Course (Level 2 Equivalent) is intended for staff working either part or full time in a dispensary requiring training in basic procedures and legal issues.

This course provides Dispensing Assistants with skills and knowledge regarding legal aspects and procedures within a dispensary.

The Healthcare Assistant Course has been designed for colleagues whose role requires them to undertake a number of activities within the pharmacy.

Allows an appropriate skill-mix that will enhance the pharmaceutical care of the patient and utilise the knowledge and skills of the dispensing assistants more effectively.

The scope of this course is to accredit technicians to carry out the final accuracy check of dispensed items clinically screened by the pharmacist.
