Foundation Pharmacist Training Programme 2021-22

The Buttercups Foundation Pharmacist Programme is a comprehensive course to prepare trainees for the registration assessment and life as a newly registered pharmacist. Building on the success of our 'blended learning' programme, this year we offer 10 study days with a dedicated Buttercups Tutor which will involve a combination of face-to-face training, interactive webinars and self-directed e-learning training materials via our b-Hive online learning platform. Trainees are also given access to our accredited Medicines Counter Assistant (MCA) and RSPH Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement (Health Champion) courses.

Programme Structure

The course content meets the requirements of the GPhC Foundation Pharmacist Training Programme and reflects the gradual transition from 'Performance Standards' to the new Learning Outcomes. Buttercups produce a template training plan which can be adapted for your own use for submission to the GPhC for premises approval. If you would like to request a copy of the mapping document please contact Buttercups Training on

Designated Supervisor Training

We offer complementary online training for designated supervisors which is designed to support all irrespective of level of experience. Webinars will be recorded live and uploaded to the b-Hive allowing supervisors the opportunity to refer back at their convenience.

Due to the on going pandemic, face-to-face group meetings are currently on hold. However, when Government guidelines permit and it is safe to do so, a regional face to face workshop will be offered to those who feel they would benefit from an interactive training session and the opportunity to network with other designated supervisors. for an additional fee of £60+VAT.

Programme Leaders

Each learner is given an experienced and dedicated Buttercups programme tutor to facilitate their learning. They are available throughout the year for information and guidance and their role is one of a coach, a mentor and an assessor. The designated supervisor will be sent a formal report on each trainee’s progress once the programmes are underway, usually between the 26-39 week period.
