Safer Internet Day – 11th February 2020

It’s Safer Internet Day (SID) on the 11th February. SID takes place each February to encourage the safe and positive use of digital technology, particularly among children and young people. On the second day of the second week of the second month, each year on Safer Internet Day millions of people unite to inspire positive changes online, to raise awareness of online safety issues, and participate in events and activities right across the globe.

Safer Internet Day aims to create both a safer and a better internet, where everyone is empowered to use technology responsibly, respectfully and creatively.

As a leading provider of blended learning, Buttercups Training is always concerned with staying safe online. This year’s theme is ‘Identity.’ We want to encourage everyone to think about identity online. Below are links to resources provided by www.saferinternet.org.uk.

Social Media Checklists

The Buttercups Training Stay Safe website is one of the ways that we ensure our learners are safe in and outside of the workplace:

Stay Safe

On our stay Safe webpage, we have pages that provide detailed information on related topics such as cyber bullying and sexting. This material also includes information and contact details of multi-agency teams that provide specialist support to people that are experiencing online abuse and potential negative exposure online.

We also recognise the rising threat of radicalisation and extremism to young people and vulnerable adults, via platforms such as social media, mobile apps and internet chatrooms. We have more information on this in the Prevent section of the Stay Safe website.

Throughout the week commencing 10th February, during interventions with our learners, we will be sharing and discussing information regarding the key areas of online identity and keeping safe online.
