Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician
Take your professional knowledge and responsibility as a technician to the next level. Build on your existing skills to carry out final accuracy checks of dispensed medicines safely and reliably to support high-quality, person-centred care.
Course overview
Our Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) course is designed to refresh and build on the understanding, skills and behaviours of technicians, with a focus on performing final accuracy checks of dispensed medicines and products safely and precisely, after they have been clinically checked by a pharmacist. Approved by the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK), it will enable you to confidently facilitate professional interaction among healthcare teams, be actively involved in risk assessment and clinical governance, and contribute to a patient safety culture.
The course does not encompass aseptic dispensing, self-checking or pre-packing, and is dependent on standard operating procedures (SOPs) being in place that define the scope of what both a learner and fully-qualified ACPT can and cannot check against a clinically-screened prescription.
Who is the course for?
This course is ideal if you are an employed registered pharmacy technician who can demonstrate your ability to dispense accurately and want to strengthen your capabilities to promote best practice and deliver the best possible patient care.
You'll require a registered pharmacist or ACPT who regularly works alongside you to act as your workplace training supervisor during the course.
How the course is delivered
We offer blended learning, combining online activities, videos and live virtual classrooms. Online learning is hosted on the Buttercups b-Hive platform. You'll also create an accuracy checking portfolio and undertake a practical exam.
You will be supported throughout your course by a dedicated Buttercups tutor and your workplace training supervisor.
