Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Training Programme (Non-Apprenticeship Pathway)

This programme enables you to apply for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), while equipping you with the clinical knowledge, confidence and practical skills to practise as a pharmacy technician.

Course overview

Developed by experienced pharmacy professionals, the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Training Programme covers person-centred care, professionalism and collaboration. You will develop the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to apply your learning directly to real-world pharmacy practice.

On successful completion of the programme, you can register with the GPhC as a qualified pharmacy technician – ready to take on professional responsibilities within healthcare teams.

Who is the course for?

The programme is suitable for those currently employed in a pharmacy setting who want to take the next step in their career and become a GPhC-registered practitioner.

Learners in Northern Ireland

The Pharmacy Technician Training Programme is suitable for learners in Northern Ireland, as long as they work under the supervision of a Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI)-registered pharmacist, or a GPhC-registered pharmacist or pharmacy technician.

How the course is delivered

We offer blended learning, combining online activities, videos and live virtual classrooms. Online learning is hosted on the Buttercups b-Hive platform.

You will be supported throughout your course by a dedicated Buttercups tutor and a workplace training supervisor.

Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) add-on

We offer an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) course alongside the Pharmacy Technician Training Programme. Please indicate your interest on the enrolment form. 

This ACPT course trains technicians to carry out the final accuracy check of listed dispensed items clinically approved by a pharmacist. It is approved by the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) to meet the National Education Framework Final Accuracy Checking of Dispensed Medicines and Products (2019), which is available on the APTUK website
