Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is any form of bullying which takes place online and/or through e-devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or malicious content about someone else. It can include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing embarrassment or humiliation. Some cyberbullying crosses the line into unlawful or criminal behaviour.

Whilst it can affect people of all ages, young people are most vulnerable and the effects can be devastating. It has been well documented that cyberbullying has resulted in tragic events including suicide and self-harm.

What we do

  • We will promote an antibullying ethos amongst the staff and learner community and reinforce the Buttercups Anti-Bullying Policy with new and existing staff/learners

  • We have an E-Safety Policy whose purpose is to safeguard activity on electronic devices and the internet, in addition to raising awareness of how to stay safe online which learners can access in their student handbook

What I will do

  • I will be aware of my own online behaviour affects others

  • I will never slander staff, students or my employer on a social networking site

  • I understand that if I am involved in any form of cyberbullying, that this will be dealt with in line with the Buttercups Anti-Bullying Policy

  • I agree that I shall not write or send malicious or offensive e-mails and accept that, if I do, I will be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Officer and appropriate actions will be taken

  • If I feel safe enough to do so, I will stand up to people that are bullying others and report them

  • I will speak up if someone is bullying me online

  • I will support others that have been affected by bullying

If you are worried or have any concerns, please contact the Buttercups Safeguarding and Welfare Team.
